I already had a fully dressed Bonita Femur, with wings, but I didn’t want to mess about with her, even though I knew she’d have a fascinating body - half moth, half skeleton. So I was lucky to pick this one up in a charity shop for buttons. The Create A Monster wings look quite good on her, though I’ve now bought her the proper ones, whenever Royal Mail deigns to deliver them.
I don’t like the new Monster High dolls. They’re supposed to look wide-eyed and cute, which is a) not remotely MH and b) makes them look goofy. This new Clawdeen just isn’t the Clawdeen we know and love. I do quite like the new characters, because there’s nothing to compare with. But look at the shoddy paintwork on poor Sylvi Timberwolf’s fangs! Do put some effort in, Mattel.
I don’t buy many Ever After High dolls. They’re beautifully articulated and have a nice body shape, but the faces let them down. A friend calls these dolls “pancake faces” - they have little expression, and there isn’t much variation between one doll and another. This one, Raven Queen, is my favourite. And this particular doll came with the Way Too Wonderland play set, which I’ve been trying to find at a reasonable price for a couple of years. Finally I succeeded. We’ll be seeing a lot of this; as backdrops go, Way Too Wonderland is as good as it gets.
