Amanita Nightshade, bad seed of the Corpse Flower. A beautiful doll & a must-have, even if her accessories do fall off. But Mattel’s knowledge of botany is exiguous. (Yes, that is a nightshade plant she’s peeking through.)

Back in January I was waiting for a bus. It was dark at 4.45pm. I happened to look behind me into the window of a charity shop that I’d been in earlier & there was a big Monster High bundle for £4, including the school playset, which goes for silly prices on eBay. I was gutted because that shop shuts at half four. Then one of the volunteers came out & I asked if they were open: yes, she said, for another ten minutes. They had to shove that stuff into two bags & get me out of the door before I missed my bus. But the playset was intact. A minor miracle.
